This 3 season, 3 pole geodesic tent has served me well for the last 3 years and is still going strongly – just needs a little wash!
Unfortunately, the Dragonfly 2 has been discontinued – only the XT variant now remains. Great news (as I found out) is that the pole sets are nearly identical and so should you crack/break/bend/lose a pole then it’s is a simple replacement jobby.
At 2.1kgs it’s not the lightest tent in the world but when shared between two the weight is easily swallowed up by the rucksack. It’s a practical tent which will comfortably accommodate two people, or luxuriously hold a person and all their kit.
Features include: Plenty of inner pockets, hanging clip, 3 well placed vents, repair kit with Seam Grip, deep bathtub-style inner, compressible stuff sack, colour coded poles and sleeves and additional mesh panel on door.
A personal favourite is the fly-first pitching, having erected it in some nasty weather it’s comforting to know the inner will be dry straight off the bat making for a better night’s kip. The geodesic design proves to be very sturdy, I very rarely put out the guylines unless the wind threatens to hurl the tent into the next field with me still inside!
As water resistant as the sil-nylon fabric is, the seams did leak in heavy rain but was quickly sorted with a healthy blob of Seam Grip across the key seams and joins.
Overall a great tent that can handle abuse, lightweight and useful features, comfortable size, very sturdy and shows all the high build qualities that can be expected from Mountain Equipment.
