I’ve had this great piece of kit for about a year now and it has stood up to a solid range of abuse and wear. Being a weeny but reasonably athletic build, at 5’7 it’s pretty hard to find a good fitting high performance jacket to meet my needs. The Astron has a great fitted cut, can stick a 200 weight fleece under it for the colder moments and when the HC hood is rolled away the collar makes for a great wind barrier!
The jacket has been worn climbing in the Peak District, keeping me cool and comfortable on the 9-mile commute cycle to work, hiking all over the place and even in the wet and windy climes of Portsmouth as my ‘everyday’ jacket. Whenever I’m in Snowdonia and see the guys from Plas y Brenin out on their courses there’s nearly always at least one instructor and group member wearing one of these jackets.
The features are well thought out; microfleece lining is comfortable in any weather situation, well placed pockets with mesh inner compatible with a rucksack hipbelt, fully adjustable HC hood with rigid peak for keeping the rain out of your face when you need to see! The ME logo tags are reflective, adding that extra bit of safety during night hikes and runs, and a windproof baffle behind the zip to keep the outside out. The face fabric is a mix of Polartec Windshield and Polartex Powerstretch which combine to give great resistance to rain, snow and ice, offers a great range of movement for the wearer and provides a lightweight and comfortable wear!
Overall a this is a highly breathable, highly water resistant jacket suitable for just about any situation and would recommend it if you’re looking for a great fitting jacket where breathability counts, weight limits are crucial and the weather may change at the drop of a hat then this could well be the jacket you’re looking for.
